“ | Sister Chemach's madness was foreseen in the first turn of the cards, drawn by her own kin. As I have always done. | ” |
— Clauneck to the Lamb, regarding Chemach and her madness
|
Chemach is a resource NPC who appears in the Relics of the Old Faith expansion of Cult of the Lamb. She provides the Lamb with Relics. Lore about Chemach can be found in the ancient tablets.
Description[]
Chemach is a blue duck who runs the Relics shop, though she looks much more like an owl.
There are tears streaming down her face and she has one dilated pupil similar to someone with a concussion. She wears a black crown that is burrowing into her head. The crown has 3 eyes like a diseased heart.. Her whole body is torn up and she is oozing a black ichor. Chemach is held up in the air by her neck with ropes and hooks. Her room looks like a crumbling imitation of our temple. She is surrounded by the bodies of her "followers" wrapped in burlap sacks. It is unclear whether the followers are still alive or not.
Her shop can be identified in combat areas by Relics hanging around the entrance to her room; it can also appear as a separate area on the Crusade map, signified by a shop icon with a Relic symbol below. She will offer the Lamb one random Relic each time you enter her room. She is distinctly less sane than her brothers, often going off into tangents when speaking to the Lamb and treating her relics like living creatures.
Dialogue[]
First Encounter[]
"Ah. Ah! The Red Crown. And you, beast…Godly.
Come. I have tools to give, yes? Crafted by Chemach. My brothers, they might have pretty things, but mine? Power. Powerful things.
Will you look? Will you take? What will you give in turn? Your flesh? Your bone? Your Crown?
Ah! Ah! I jest, I joke! I won't take anything! Nothing for Chemach!"
After taking a Relic for the first time[]
"Ah! Ah! My pretty creations! Holy pieces of revered beings...
They hunger, yes? Crave the power that was once theirs, yes?
Feed them, yes? They are hungry, hungry for miscreant flesh...let them feast..."
After using a Relic for the first time[]
"Ah. Yes! Better than silly card, better than pointy sword, Chemach is better.
Little God will come again! Chemach will give Relic. Chemach will make Relic. Chemach will make Relic out of you one day.
Bye bye!"
Random dialogue[]
- "Once of Gods, now Godly power contained...eyes and ears and throats and brains…"
- "Ah. Ah! Chemach can make Relic from anything. Hair and nails, little Lamb tails…"
- "Do you like my Crown? Made by Chemach. Out of what? Hehehehe…"
- "Little God likes Chemach's Followers? Chemach made them herself!"
When attacking her Followers[]
- "Ah! Ah! My Followers! Chemach's Followers!"
- "Little God, do not provoke the mighty Chemach!"
- "You attack Chemach following!? Chemach's following will attack you!
Lore[]
![]() Spoiler Alert! From Ancient Tablet IV
"I used to think them strange, these three feathered beasts, unworn and unweathered by the passage of time. To be keepers of Godly tools, and yet not be tempted to Godliness themselves—do they not hunger as we do? Now, wisened in age, I understand. Hatched beneath the First, they crave no power, seek no other fulfillment, for it is not in their nature. And it is by nature that we must abide." From Ancient Tablet VI I had not seen her in some dozen years, perhaps a score, perhaps a hundred. She is changed, alarmingly so, the mutilation of her body naught compared to the madness taking root in her mind. Her kin were indifferent. ‘Twas foreseen, the card reader said. I asked, what of her duty? What of the Crowns? What of her very nature? And the smith answered: it is lost. From Kudaai "Hatched were we, in the bosom of the last of the First Gods. To bestow Godly instruments, and yet never wield them ourselves. As nature demands." From Comic Things get lost and almost forgot... But Chemach knows that power lies somewhere deep within. Chemach will find it, will pull it out. Why not? Chemach only wants a little. Why not? Why not Chemach |
Trivia[]
- When attacking Chemach's 'followers' with Necromatic Weapons, they have a chance of spawning ghosts. This suggests that they are still alive in their bags.
- Farm: when initially meeting Chemach you can farm enemies infinitely, if you don't use the relic she gives you. Allowing you to get an absurd amount of morsels and bones. This puts your cult at risk due to time passing, however you can find Chemach extremely early with a bit of luck.
- She is possibly floating on chains since she is missing the lower half of their body. Unlike her siblings, she does not have any visible legs on her body, Only her hands are shown clasp together. She wears a crown instead of a cowl like her brothers.
- Chemach's crown signifies her madness, hunger for power, and her near-obsession with the body parts of fallen Gods.
- Destroying the followers figures around Chemach will give you follower meat.
- Based on the ancient tablets, Chemach is implied to be ancient and unaging like Narinder, the one who waits.
- Chemach collect more than just remnants from fallen gods. The toenails, teeth, and hair of her brothers are also relics in the game.
- Chemach's body oozing black goo is possibly a reference to Greek mythology since Greek gods bleed golden ichor. Ichor is poisonous to mortals.
- Clauneck is the name of a demon of wealth that appears in the Key of Solomon. He also is known to grant wealth and find stolen or lost items for the summoner. This name fits better with Chemach since she finds lost things (relics).
