Cult of the Lamb Wiki

There are various crowns in Cult of the Lamb. The most prominent ones are the five crowns of the Bishops: the Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Purple Crowns. These crowns act as the source of their powers and godhood. For more information on each of the Bishop's Crowns, please refer to their individual pages linked below.

Crowns of the Bishops[]

It appears that the crowns of the Bishops are capable as disability aids;

  • Leshy sees through his crown, as evidenced by him immediately wondering where his crown is when indoctrinated.
  • Heket’s crown allows her to speak, as shown by her immense trouble speaking as a follower.
  • Kallamar’s crown helps him hear, as seen in his follower thought that implies he has to lipread to listen to people talk.
  • Shamura’s crown helps them think, as shown by their immensely more confused behavior as a follower.
  • The One Who Waits' crown is shown to shapeshift into tools its bearer needs, and be willing to obey vessels.

This ties into the bishops' symbolism; see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil, think no evil, do no evil. It is unknown if any crown is capable of these tasks.

Other Crowns[]

Gods and Crowns of the Lands

Old Gods as shown in The First Verse

The other crowns in the game aren't shown doing much, but still they bear symbolic meaning

Eldritch Crown[]

Chemach's Crown

Shamura-animation-brain

The Purple Crown, pictured on Shamura, with similar tentacles or roots to that of Chemach's Crown

Chemach's crown seems to serve as an embodiment of her madness, hunger for power, and disturbing fixation on the remnants of fallen Gods. Adorned with tentacles that writhe from its base, and three eyes of differing sizes with analogous pupils, the crown exudes an aura of malevolence.

Chemach's crown may serve as a visual testament to her twisted nature and her intimate knowledge of the ancient gods past. Interestingly, the crowns roots reaching onto her head are similar to the way the Purple Crown is seen to have embedded itself into Shamura's brain.

It is possible that the crown acts as a conduit or as the source of her madness and obsession, but also serves as a stark reminder of Chemach's depravity and dark pursuit of godly remains.

Origami Crown []

Ratau's Crown is a paper origami crown that bears a triangle with a line through it. His "crown" seems to be tied to his former status as a crown bearer for The One Who Waits.

Fallen Crown []

Haro's crown has an X for an eye, implying it is dead or dying. This implies their former role as God of the Hunt, before they stepped down before the bishops. This is also reflected in his inverted robe colors.

Jeweled Crown []

Midas's crown isn't a crown in the sense the others are, instead a stereotypical bejeweled golden crown, worn likely as visual shorthand for his obsession with gold.

Ratoo's Crown[]

Ratoo's crown has a sharp, triangular shape with a heart in the center. This crown's power is likely the cause of Ratoo being able to live without a heart.

The Goat's Crown[]

The Goat has a crown with an appearance identical to the Lamb's, except with a purple eye instead of a red one. Presently, its origin is unknown; however, it is probable that it is a copy or alternate version of the Red Crown, as the Goat is derived from the Lamb.

Helob's Crown[]

Helob's crown is a triangle with a purple rectangle in the middle. The purple is symbolic for the Silk Cradle. Silk Cradle is where Helob originates from, and the purple theme fits with Shamura and their crown, although Helob's likely has no use.

Trivia[]

  • The symbol on Ratau's crown is the same as the alchemic symbol for air.
  • Many people believe that Shamura's crown is “fused” with them, occasionally assuming the game uses “they” on them because it's referring to Shamura and their crown, or that this is how it helps them think. While that may be partially true, the insinuation that Shamura's crown has a unique relationship with them is not. Official art of the Lamb's internal anatomy shows the red crown does this too, allowing a reasonable conclusion all the crown bearers we see in game have tendrils in their skulls.
  • Crowns may have some extent of free will as shown in this animated short where the Red Crown takes actions without command from the Lamb.
  • The Red Crown may be the only one with a unique (snake) animal form, but we don't know for sure. That means that the other's animal forms are up to guessing.
