The Mating Tent is a building in Cult of the Lamb.
Description[]
The Mating Tent appears to be a pink tent with a heart on the top and the middle with a purple carpet with hearts beneath the tent and inside the tent is what appears to be a bed with two pink pillows on it and above the bed are yellow lights. Beneath the bed is a yellow carpet. Outside of the tent are the pegs that connect the tent to the ground and nearby the purple carpet are two sets of two white candles.
Uses[]
It is a building that allows the player to invite two Followers to make an Egg, but they may not accept. This action costs one Sin, regardless whether they choose to mate or not.
Certain actions will occur after two Followers have been picked:
- Both followers will shrug. (Fail)
- One follower will reject the other, causing the other to cry for a short time. (Fail)
- Both will show interest and kiss however after a bit in the tent one will walk out making a sick face. This has a small chance to happen if one follower is cowardly. (Fail)
- Both followers show signs of rejection by making a sick face. This always happens when Followers are parents, siblings or children, or if their chances of mating are 0%. (Fail)
- Both Followers giggle before kissing. (Potential success)
- Both Followers show interest before kissing. (Potential success)
If they go inside the tent and mating is successful, the player is prompted to pick traits for the resulting child.
The player is allowed to pick up to two traits from either parent, plus two additional random traits. If the resulted egg is a Golden Egg, up to four traits can be picked instead. The player will be notified if the egg is golden immediately when the trait picking screen shows up. Note that unique traits, like Immortal (Narinder) and Don't Starve (Webber) cannot be picked, while the latter form cannot mate in the first place, however, if you change Webber’s form using the re-indoctrination stone, Don’t Starve can be bred.
After picking the trait, both the followers comes out nearly naked with one of them carrying an egg and leaving it nearby. Both of them will be exhausted afterwards, and will require rest. To hatch the egg, it must be placed at Hatchery/Hatchery II and constantly given care (about once per day) until ready to hatch.
When the egg hatched into a Baby Follower, its form is dependent on their parents:
- If both parents have identical forms, the baby too will have their form, but its type and color will be randomized if possible. For example, a red panda and a green red panda would produce a red panda.
- If both parents have different forms, the baby will have either of the two forms when hatched. For instance, a blue echidna and a red pangolin will produce a blue pangolin.
- If either parents are using unique forms (i.e: Leshy), the egg cannot be golden, it will always hatch as an abomination, which cannot be changed after they are grown to adult or by using the Re-Indoctrination Stone.
- This will still take effect even with Twitch integration that overrides the unique followers with a Twitch Follower appearance.
- If the egg is golden, the egg will randomize its form to a selectable one, including either Lemur, Caterpillar, or Seal if neither of the three has been acquired for the form selection yet.
Comically, you can put both Lamb and Goat together with Unholy Alliance update by moving them to it, but this will always result in them puking out at the end. Cue goes for the writhing tentacles.
Factors that affect followers matching[]
There are some factors that affect the rate of the followers accepting one other:
- Increases Chances:
- Followers who are friends
- Followers who are lovers
- Rite of Lust is active.
- Decreases Chances:
- Exhausted, sick, etc. followers
- 0 % of Pairing:
- Of note, you can pair a follower with one of their siblings' descendants, for example, Heket with a descendant of Leshy. This is not the only case of incest that the game allows however.
- You can pair a follower with one of their half-siblings.
- Narinder can still breed with the Bishops, however.
About Babies[]
Followers created via Eggs will have a special bell collar matching that of the Lamb's default fleece, this will persist even after they reach adulthood.
Eggs that are not hatched or broken open will eventually become rotten and will need to be cleaned up.
When you hatch a baby you will be prompted to give them a name, until they reach adulthood it will not be possible to change anything else about them.
They will crawl around, unable to do any labor and pooping everywhere since they can't use outhouses. They do not require a sleeping space (though one can be assigned manually) or food. You can put them in Nursery if you don't want them crawling about until they reach 13.
Babies Interactions:[]
- to read their minds
- nurture (unique interaction only available with infants)
Preteens/ Teenagers[]
- age 13: the babies will stop crawling on the ground and begin to clumsily walk around, this is only an aesthetic change as the interactions and their inability to work will remain the same for a while longer.
- 18 years old: they'll start to chase the lamb, asking them for attention, like a follower giving a quest. Once interacting with them, if they have been properly nurtured until then, they will thank the lamb for taking care of them before joining the cult for good, allowing you to customize them how you want, like changing their appearance. However, if The Lamb fails to properly nurture a baby before it becomes 18, they will call The Lamb out for their neglect and leave the cult.
Strategy[]
- Generally, you want to aim for a Golden Egg. However, unless you are using Twitch Integration and the watchers decided to bless you with a Golden Egg, the chance of the followers making a Golden Egg is just 20%. The second egg in any given playthrough is always golden, unless a parent is unique (which results in an abomination). If at least 10 eggs were produced and at least one Golden Egg Skin is locked (Lemur, Caterpillar, Seal), there is an extra 40% chance for a Golden Egg.
- You can crack the egg afterwards instead of putting them at the Hatchery, producing 1 Egg Yolk (or 5 in the case of Golden Egg) that gives powerful benefits when used as a drink at Drinkstation or as food in Kitchen.
- Babies can be a good source of high loyalty level followers if you remember to nurture them, being only slightly more difficult to obtain than a normal follower
- With the Born of Sin doctrine, babies instantly give a sin, essentially refunding the cost of creating it.
Notes[]
- If a baby is already level 10, it cannot be leveled up further beyond that via nurturing
Trivia[]
- The variable which holds the information about if two Co-Op players have entered the Mating Tent together is humorously called PlayersShagged in the player's save file.
- It is possible to have a baby disciple via Twitch integration. This can be done by having the help or hinder option pop up on your stream, your viewers picking hinder, then getting the option to turn a follower into a baby, then having your viewers pick said option. The follower that is randomly picked could just so happen to be a disciple. Babies can via the same logic also have necklaces. The odds of this are very low, however.
- The Mating Tent was left unused in earlier builds, meaning that it was considered very early on in development prior to Sins of the Flesh.
