- The Latin roots of the term "menticide" translate to "killer of the mind," with ment- meaning "mind" and -cide meaning "killer." This very likely is refering to how it destroys the logical thinking of the follower.
- Menticide Mushrooms seem to take after the appearance of red Amanita muscaria (or "fly agaric") mushrooms, which are famously known for their bright coloration and white spots. Similar to their fictional counterpart, fly agaric mushrooms have hallucinogenic properties but may also cause poisoning and illness when ingested.
