Sin is a currency added in the Sins of Flesh update on January 16th 2024.
Sin is a separate currency which becomes unlocked upon the defeat of the 3rd Bishop. When a sermon is performed after this, a cutscene will play and the Sin Doctrine path will be unlocked. Sin is rewarded to the player if a follower's Sin bar is maxed out, and then absolved of their Sin.
Uses[]
Sin can currently be used as a currency for the following:
- Selecting two Followers to mate in the mating tent. The Sin is consumed even if the mating is not successful. This is the primary use of Sin.
- Creating specific Robes that require it in Tailor
- Building Sin-related buildings
- Re-indoctrinating Followers
- Upgrading and decorating the Temple
- Resetting Purgatory after a run without needing to wait an in-game day
- Buying the Cowboy and Goat fleeces for 10 and 5 sin respectively.
Obtaining[]
Sin can be gathered in the following ways:
- Performing either Rite of Lust, Rite of Wrath or the Gluttony of Cannibals.
- Having a follower confess once an ingame day (for Sin) after unlocking Doctrinal Extremist.
- Defeating bosses during a crusade after unlocking the "Violent Extremist" trait may grant 1 Sin.
- Obtaining the Temptation's Fate Tarot Card during a crusade, granting each enemy a 10% chance to drop 1 Sin.
- Having a Follower drink at the Drinkhouse.
- Performing at a Drum Circle.
- Hatching a baby follower with the "Born of Sin" trait unlocked.
- Performing the Sinner's Pride, Rite of Lust, and Rite of Wrath ritual on a Follower.
Once the follower (or player) has completed one of the actions above, they will gain sin.
If a follower indulges in these sinful actions, they fill up a bar above their head, they will be over taken by sin and will need to be absolved of Sin.
Several traits also affect the Sin generation of a Follower:
- Hedonist - Decreases productivity by 10% but increases Sin generation by 15%.
- Ascetic - Decreases Sin generation by 10% but increases productivity by 15%.
- Unrepentant - Produces Sin 15% faster.
- Virtuous - Produces Sin 20% slower.
If a follower has been absolved of their Sin three times, they will be become a damned follower.
Damned Followers[]
“ | The suffering you have caused me... it is unbearable! YOU DID THIS TO ME! | ” |
— Damned Followers
|
If a Follower has been absolved of Sin three times in a row, they become damned and are forced away from the Cult through a black hole in the ground that resembles the icon of the Ichor Thrown curse.
Combat[]
A damned Follower can be randomly encountered during crusades. The screen is tinted red as they arrive by lowering themselves slowly from above. Most of their attacks are projectile-based, but their attack speed is slow and they have relatively low health. Upon defeat, they will vanish and may appear at subsequent combat areas. Note that a damned Follower appears at the beginning of normal combat rooms, so other enemies can fight alongside them.
After they have been defeated three times, they will drop one Sin and return to the cult where they can be indoctrinated again. Causing them to Sin one more time will result in them becoming damned once more. Note that if you are confident in your fighting skills this can be used to generate an extra sin per drum circle[1].
