The Goat is one of the two playable characters, added in the Unholy Alliance update, released on August 12th 2024.
They are a deuteragonist (and the mirror image) of The Lamb.
Description[]
The Goat has a purple cape covering their body, which is also known as The Goat's fleece. They have twin horns that curve at the end, and are brown-orange in color. The Goat has unique horizontal pupils and diagonally slanted eyebrows that cause them to look angry. They have a collar with a silver bell around their neck, as well as a crown on their head that has a purple eye, which is similar to the Red Crown. Their fur is a dark grey-brown color, with their skin being light brown-grey. Their ears are a bit floppy, pointing down naturally. Their fur also appears shaggier and spikier than The Lamb's, likely because of the species difference.
Abilities[]
While nothing is explicitly stated, The Goat's abilities appear identical to The Lamb, as they can perform the exact same rituals and curses. However, both in the trailer[1] and in game we can see that The Goat can be summoned from a puddle of dark liquid on the ground. Near the end of the Unholy Alliance Launch Trailer[1], a piece of the dark liquid is seen going into The Red Crown, resulting in it gaining a purple eye, the implications of this are unknown as of yet. According to an official reddit post[2], we do not know where The Goat has come from, and that they are not blood related to The Lamb.
Personality[]
Similar to The Lamb, The Goats true personality is typically left up to the player, but we can see from most sprites and reactions that The Goat is shown to be more mischievous and angry compared to the more innocent smile The Lamb constantly shows. Based on the Unholy Alliance Update trailer, we see The Goat is much more aggressive than The Lamb, throwing them aside and instantly taking the attackers out with a single swing.
Despite this, they are still shown to care for The Lamb's cult, showing a happier attitude towards the Followers whenever they perform actions such as bless or inspire. It is never made clear whether The Goat is genuine, as they are constantly shown with an evil smile, even when performing simple tasks like fishing or constructing the cult.
Access Guide[]
The Goat Fleece can be obtained by dying after defeating The One Who Waits. Upon death, the Lamb will appear in a realm that looks similar to Narinder's prison, only without skulls and with black tendrils sticking out of the ground. A large pool of black liquid rests under the statue of the Goat, walking on it will cause musical notes to play. The statue is made of stone, has a purple pedestal, purple glowing eyes, and a rib cage visible. It is impossible to leave this area without approaching the statue.
The Lamb will walk up to the statue and receive the following prompts.
Spoiler Alert! "Be still. Listen."
"Do you see it? Do you feel it?" "Calling to you from the unknown..." The words "reaching" "writhing" "CORRUPTION" flash in the prompt box without input required. "It seeps through the cracks. It seeks you." "Reach into the shadows. To what might have been." "Now, young God. Time is a precious thing to waste." Holding the action button causes the realm to turn red and the Lamb to become possessed. Corrupted Tarot cards are unlocked, several Relics are unlocked. |
The Lamb will return to life to the place where they died at the moment of their death, similar to sacrificing a Follower. In this way, it is possible to unlock the achievement for defeating a Bishop without taking damage if the Fleece of the Berserker is equipped.
Trivia[]
- During Devolver Digital's Birthday Sale at 2024, a forgettable teaser of The Goat (standing at the wall next to Volvy) can be seen at the end of the Steam Store page. This wasn't taken much to note of until the announcement of the Unholy Alliance update.
- Similar to lambs, goats are often used as sacrificial creatures to religion and cults, playing into the irony of a sacrificial creature leading a cult.
- The Goat is one of the few characters to break the typical eye design trend, with their pupils closer resembling a goats.
- Despite The Goat being more well known as the second player, they can be played in single player as long as a second player has connected at least once, where they can be purchased in the Fleece section for 5 Sin.
- The Lamb and The Goat can both enter a mating tent at the same time.
- If they do this, demonic tentacles burst out the tent, followed by the two exiting the tent, immediately throwing up on the floor simultaneously, earning a Diseased Heart.
